Josefina Strano-Lage joins AIPIA's Technical-Scientific Committee

Josefina Strano-Lage joins AIPIA’s Technical-Scientific Committee with effect from 1 September 2026. She sits on the Committee as a member and is the association’s Director of Legal & Institutional Relations: two roles concerned with how AIPIA writes its own documents and handles its relationship with institutions.

The Technical-Scientific Committee is one of the four bodies set out in article 6 of the Statute, alongside the President, the Board and the Members’ Assembly. It oversees the methodological validity and scientific coherence of the association’s work, draws up guidelines, ethical standards and professional good practice, and reviews the quality of the projects AIPIA promotes.

Why legal expertise on the Committee

A growing part of AIPIA’s work consists of stating publicly what the association is and what it does: the obligations set out by Italian Law 4 of 2013, transparency documents, relations with public bodies and administrations. The legal affairs directorate exists to keep what the association states and what it may state in line with each other.

This is not a formality. The rules for artificial intelligence are being written now, and a professional association taking part in that process needs to know precisely what its perimeter is, which obligations apply to it and which do not.

Institutional relations

Institutional relations concern dialogue with public bodies, universities and administrations: this is the ground on which the Committee puts forward proposals about collaborations, funding calls and regulatory measures, working alongside the association in its external relations. It is the point where the body’s technical competence meets the forums in which those rules are discussed.

The Technical-Scientific Committee holds no powers of representation: legal representation of the association rests with the President under the Statute, and no member of the Committee can bind AIPIA. The body’s contribution is technical and methodological.
