The Participant Identification Code is the code with which the European Commission identifies an organisation in the Participant Register of the Funding & Tenders Portal. The Italian Association of Artificial Intelligence Professionals is registered there. This page explains what the PIC is, what it is for, how it is verified and what it does not mean.

What the PIC is
The PIC is a nine-digit numeric code assigned to every organisation registered in the Participant Register, the register of participants of the Funding & Tenders Portal, the single portal of the funding programmes and procurement of the European Union. An organisation has one PIC only, the same in all programmes, and uses it to appear in proposals, grants and tenders.
The register reports the data declared by the organisation: name, legal form, country, address. The formal validation of the data by the central services of the Commission takes place when the organisation enters a proposal selected for funding.
Who issues it and what it is for
The PIC is assigned by the European Commission through the Participant Register of the Funding & Tenders Portal. It serves to submit proposals and take part in the Union programmes managed by the portal, such as Horizon Europe, Digital Europe or the centralised actions of Erasmus+: without a PIC an organisation cannot appear as a participant in a proposal nor sign a grant agreement.
Having it is a technical prerequisite, not a funding application: it says who the organisation is, not what it has obtained.

AIPIA does not declare funded projects. The register says who it is, not what it has obtained.
How is AIPIA's PIC verified?
The PIC is verified with the public search of the Participant Register on the Funding & Tenders Portal of the European Commission, entering the code 862083718 or the name of the association: the result shows name, country and registration status. AIPIA's internal registry carries the date of the last check. The two sources say the same thing.
What is the difference between PIC and OID?
The PIC identifies AIPIA in the Participant Register of the Funding & Tenders Portal, used for the centralised actions of the European programmes, while the OID identifies it in the Organisation Registration System used for the decentralised actions of Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps managed by the national agencies: two registers of the same Commission, with different purposes. AIPIA has both. Neither amounts to funding.
