Diego Droghini is an AI Specialist and Machine Learning Research Engineer. He holds a PhD in Electronic Engineering from Università Politecnica delle Marche and has more than ten years of work across applied research and industry. His career holds together two things that rarely coexist: peer-reviewed machine learning research, and putting AI systems into production in industrial settings, where an error carries a measurable cost.
He is based in Ascoli Piceno. Since November 2023 he has been AI Specialist at ICS Technologies, where he leads the company-wide adoption of generative artificial intelligence; alongside that he carries out independent research on agentic engineering and agent-assisted programming, testing its limits on a real product used by customers.
What he brings to the Committee
On the Technical-Scientific Committee, Diego Droghini brings the perspective of someone who has worked both sides, scientific publication and production deployment: it serves the methodological assessment of projects and the drafting of guidelines that hold up outside the laboratory as well. His work on generative-AI governance inside a company sits close to the subjects on which the Committee develops standards and professional good practice.
Generative-AI adoption and governance at ICS Technologies
Since 2023 he has defined the governance frameworks, the operational usage guidelines and the criteria by which language models enter business and engineering processes. The approach is not normative from above but experimental: identify the processes where impact is measurable, verify in the field, and only then consolidate practice into a guideline.
He develops the infrastructure connecting AI clients to company systems: MCP connectors to the ERP, the document system and the simulation tools, with support for locally run models. He leads object detection projects on radar and electro-optical sensors and runs internal AI training, from sessions for all staff to developer tracks on coding agents.
From peer-reviewed research to in-line quality control
His doctorate, devoted to ambient intelligence and to computational audio signal processing for fall detection, produced a dozen international publications across journals and conference proceedings, and a Best Presentation Award at the 2018 International Conference on Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence.
Between 2018 and 2023, as AI Research Scientist at MFL X, he devised and developed a real-time quality control system for the production of electrical cable sheathing: the method is the subject of patent document US20200408696A1, filed in 2019 in the names of Vesperini and Droghini. In the same period he designed an IIoT web application for production line monitoring.
Bigfood and Panorama
Bigfood began in 2024 from a food laboratory’s need for traceability and is today a product used by customers for HACCP compliance and day-to-day management in small and medium food businesses: built entirely with agent-assisted programming tools, used as a systematic test bed.
Panorama, started in 2026 on commission from the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, supports differential diagnostic reasoning where access to tests and laboratories is limited. Every relation in the knowledge base carries the source it was extracted from, assessments are proposed by the agent but decided by the medical team, and in operation no decision is taken by a model.
